A significant data leak by Texas-based Raptor Technologies exposed over four million records of students, parents, and staff, amounting to approximately 827GB of sensitive data. Raptor Technologies is a company that specializes in developing integrated school safety technologies. Raptor's systems are used to enhance the security of school campuses by providing comprehensive, real-time screening and monitoring of visitors and activities within the school premises.

This leak, identified by cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler, is caused by an unprotected database exposed to the internet containing private school data, including school layouts, security vulnerabilities, background checks, student health information, and court-ordered protection orders. The database contained more than four million records, totalling around 827GB.

While the company has secured the files after a responsible disclosure, the duration of the exposure and potential unauthorized access are unclear.

The researcher highlighted the risks associated with this breach, especially considering the history of school shootings documented by the National Center for Education Statistics.
