Republic Bank of Chicago reports data breach, exposing over 7k individuals

The Republic Bank of Chicago reported a data breach in which an unauthorized intrusion impacted their systems, potentially compromising client data. During the investigation it was determined that an external entity had gained access to certain databases containing customers' personal and financial details.

The compromised information included

• names
• bank account numbers,
• credit card numbers,
• other sensitive financial instruments.

At least 7,199 individuals are impacted by this incident.

Republic Bank, did not disclose details about  how the breach occurred or the nature of the security vulnerability.

As a result of the investigation's findings, Republic Bank is sending out notification letters to the affected customers to alert them to the potential risks and the measures they can take to secure their information.

There is no immediate indication of whether this breach was a direct attack on the bank's systems or if it was an indirect consequence of a cyber attack targeted at one of the bank’s third-party vendors, which are increasingly common vectors for data breaches.
