SAX LLP data breach exposes sensitive data of over 228,000 people

SAX LLP, a New Jersey-based accounting, tax, and advisory firm, reports a significant data breach that compromised sensitive personal information belonging to 228,876 individuals. The firm detected suspicious activity on its computer network on August 7, 2024.
The investigation confirmed that attackers stole client data. The exposed data includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver's license or state identification number
- Passport number
The nature of the attack is not disclosed. The firm completed its data review and notification preparation process on December 1, 2025, and began mailing data breach notification letters to affected individuals on December 16, 2025. It's unclear what caused the massive delay between the detection in August 2024 and notification in December 2025.
The firm is providing affected individuals with 12 months of complimentary identity protection services, which includes credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, credit protection, identity restoration, and lost wallet assistance. SAX has also established a dedicated call center at 855-720-3117, available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Eastern Time, to address inquiries from impacted individuals.
