Scott County are reporting a data breach involving a health department employee's email account that potentially exposed sensitive personal information of approximately 4,500 individuals.

Suspicious activity was initially detected in a health department employee's email account on July 11, 2024. After detecting the incident, Scott County launched an investigation with assistance from third-party forensic specialists.

The investigation revealed that an unauthorized user gained access to the email account during a three-day period between July 10 and July 12, 2024.  The attack exposed personal data, including:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical information

The county is notifying impacted individuals through mail and has also published information on the county's website.
