The Anchorage Police Department (APD) took its servers offline following a cyberattack on Whitebox Technologies, a third-party data migration vendor. Whitebox notified the department of the security incident on January 7, 2026, while APD was preparing for a software upgrade. The city's IT department immediately cut off all access for the vendor and other third-party providers to prevent any potential spread of the attack.

To protect sensitive law enforcement information, officials shut down relevant APD servers and isolated the police network. The IT team also oversaw the deletion of all remaining APD data from the vendor's systems. `the department has not confirmed a direct breach of its own infrastructure, it has escalated monitoring for any unusual activity.

It's not clear whether any data was exposed and whether any individuals are affected by this incident. APD officials stated they will notify any individuals if they find that personal information was compromised.

Whitebox Technologies specializes in data migration and serves multiple government agencies across the United States, including those in Washington, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Maine. The company is currently investigating the breach. No ransomware groups have publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, and the nature of the compromise the vendor remains unknown.
