Sinclair Broadcast Group, a major operator of TV stations across the United States, is reporting a ransomware attack that encrypted part of its servers and workstations and led to data theft.

The incident, which began on Saturday 25th of May, was identified by Sunday, causing disruptions in both office and operational networks. Although Sinclair did not specify how many TV stations were affected, it was confirmed that their office in Toledo, Ohio (WNWO) went off the air, and stations like WJLA in Washington and WZTV in Nashville reported severe technical issues and operational limitations.

Sinclair owns or operates 21 regional sports networks and provides services to 185 television stations in 86 markets. The ransomware attack severely disrupted their operations, including local advertising.
