The Spokane Regional Health District reports a data breach that may have compromised the personal medical information of 1,058 individuals.
The breach was caused by a phishing attack on December 21. The health district's investigation, suggests that the attacker may have had the opportunity to view some protected health information but apparently did not actively open, access, or download any documents.
The information potentially exposed customer data, including:
- first and last names,
- birthdays,
- case numbers,
- counselor names,
- urinalysis results along with dates,
- medications including dates of last doses.
Per the report no Social Security numbers or financial details were compromised.
All 1,058 affected individuals have been informed about the potential exposure of their data. The health district has advised these individuals to vigilantly monitor their bank accounts for any unusual activities and to keep an eye on Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements from insurance companies as a precaution against identity theft.
