The Hershey Company, based in Pennsylvania, has reported a data breach impacting 2,214 individuals. The Hershey Company, often known simply as Hershey, is an American multinational company and one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the world.
The breach occurred between 3rd and 4th September and was caused by a phishing attack on Hershey email accounts. In response, the company took action to block the unauthorized access and confirmed that the affected accounts were no longer accessible to the unauthorized user.
The attack exposed personal infromation such as:
- first and last names,
- health and medical details,
- credit card numbers with passcodes,
- financial account credentials, including routing numbers.
Although Hershey has stated there is no evidence to suggest that the stolen data has been misused, they are offering two years of credit monitoring services to the affected individuals as a precautionary measure. The company has reporedt this incident to their customers and has filed a report with the authorities.
