The Supreme Administrative Court of Bulgaria was hit by a cyberattack and a data breach. The Ransomhouse hacker group claimed responsibility for the attack, using the White Rabbit ransomware strain, described as one of the most sophisticated variants currently in circulation.

The hackers provided evidence of the breach by publishing several documents on the dark web and included a message requesting communication with the court's management. The attack reportedly targeted the Unified Administrative and Information System (EDIS) of the administrative courts, with initial investigations suggesting the attack originated from outside Bulgaria.

Types of data reportedly exposed:

  • Employee names
  • Personal information
  • Leave applications
  • Potentially other court documentation (under investigation)

The number of affected individuals is not disclosed. The court's reliance on paper-based judicial acts supposedly helped minimize the impact of the attack. The court claims that their operational capabilities have been maintained,

The breach has apparently encrypted 140 computers within the Supreme Administrative Court. Acting Chairman Georgi Cholakov has acknowledged receiving a ransom demand.
