Swiss Air Force is reporting a major data breach, caused through the compromise of a supplier - US security company, Ultra Intelligence & Communications.

The ALPHV hacker group claimed responsibility for the breach, publishing the data after their ransom demand was refused. The attackers, accessed and leaked about 30 gigabytes of sensitive documents, including classified information and contracts with the Swiss Department of Defence and RUAG, a defence contractor.

These documents, now available on the darknet, detail encrypted communication technologies purchased for the Swiss Air Force and other transactions. The leak is concerning due to the sensitive nature of military and intelligence data.

The Swiss Federal Department of Defence, while confirming the breach, stated that the operational systems of the armed forces were not affected. RUAG, also implicated in the leak, clarified that the concerned business unit is no longer part of its current operations.

The impact of the breach, also affecting FBI and NATO, remains to be fully assessed, with concerns over the potential exploitation of vulnerabilities in the leaked technologies.
