Sydney based law firm Brydens Lawyers with ties to sporting organizations including the NRL and A-League, is reporting a cyberattack. The breach, discovered around February 20, 2025 resulted in the theft of over 600 gigabytes of confidential data.
The firm's principal notified employees about the security breach describing it as "very significant and potentially damaging" to the firm's server and data integrity. Brydens shut down their digital systems and engaged external advisers, legal counsel, and security specialists.
According to Brydens, foreign threat actors are now using the stolen data to extort a ransom from the firm. The compromised information reportedly includes sensitive client data, case information, and staff details.
No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack, number affected individuals or the types of exposed data.
Brydens confirmed the breach has been reported to the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
