The Tasmania Department of State Growth reports a data breach that exposed the personal information of bus and taxi drivers.
The Department of State Growth revealed that license renewal information for passenger transport drivers was mistakenly emailed to a licensing client instead of the intended recipient, resulting in unauthorized exposure to sensitive personal and professional driver information. The incident occurred due to human error. "This was not a system hack or a deliberate action, it was human error," a spokesperson said.
The exposed data includes:
- Driver names (full names)
- Dates of birth
- Home addresses (residential addresses)
- License numbers
- Details about permits to operate public passenger vehicles
- Permit expiration dates
The breach affected approximately 260 individuals,
All affected drivers have been personally notified via mail. The department is offering to issue new licenses and license numbers free of charge to those whose details were compromised, to mitigate potential risks associated with the exposure of their license information.
