The Kenneth Young Center (KYC), a mental health services provider based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, reports a data breach involving unauthorized access to KYC's computer network. KYC offers a variety of mental health services, including substance abuse treatment, services for older adults, transitional living, intensive group recovery, child and adolescent services, and employment services

This incident, first identified on March 6, 2024. Following the detection, KYC took steps to secure its systems, notify law enforcement, and initiate an investigation with the help of data security experts.

The investigation confirmed that certain files containing confidential consumer information were accessed. Exposed sensitive consumer information includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license information
  • Financial account information
  • Passport numbers
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Dates of birth

No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack or the number of affected individuals.

KYC began sending out data breach notification letters to the affected individuals on April 8, 2024.
