The Real World (formerly known as Hustler's University) - an online course platform founded by Andrew Tate has been hit by a cyberattack. The hacktivism-motivated breach has stolen and exposed user information and highlighted significant security vulnerabilities in the platform's infrastructure.
The breach has exposed extensive user data, including 325,000 unique email addresses and private chat logs from over 600 servers. The scope of the incident affects approximately 800,000 users of the platform, which charges $50 monthly for access to courses in fitness, finance, and e-commerce. According to platform claims, approximately 113,000 of these users are currently active.
The hackers announced their successful breach in a dramatic fashion by flooding the platform's chatroom with provocative content, including transgender flag emojis, feminist symbols, and AI-generated manipulated images of Tate.
The attack exploited multiple security vulnerabilities that allowed hackers to perform various malicious actions, including:
- uploading files,
- deleting attachments,
- crashing clients,
- temporarily banning users.
The hackers described the platform as "hilariously insecure," highlighting the severe nature of the security flaws that enabled their access.
The compromised data has been shared with multiple organizations including The Daily Dot, which broke the story, Have I Been Pwned for breach notification purposes, and DDoSecrets, a nonprofit journalism collective that stores leaked datasets in the public interest. The data continues to circulate online, raising significant concerns about user privacy and potential misuse of the exposed information.
It's unclear whether affected users have been notified, whether any financial or particularly sensitive personal information was accessed, and if any regulatory bodies have been notified.
