Claims on dark web sites suggest that Banregio, a prominent Mexican financial institution has been hit by a cyberattack and a data breach.
The breach allegedly began with unauthorized access to the organization's control panel with the access enabled through errors and malfunctions of the control panel.
The claims are vague, mentioning theft of project attachments, including data in HTML format and screenshots. The hacker boasted about obtaining extensive data, including administrative panel information, FTP access, and server log files, hinting at the potential misuse of this data for accessing client databases and admin panels.
From these claims it's not clear whether the attack hit software development processes, backend systems or website infrastructure.
Banregio has not issued an official statement. The bank's website remains functional, suggesting that if an attack occurred, it possibly targeted the backend infrastructure rather than the website's frontend, or was non-disruptive and didn't leave visible traces.
