The Philippine Army and Philippine Navy have launched investigations into alleged cyberattacks on their networks, officials confirmed on Monday, February 24, 2025.
A group identifying itself as "Philippine Exodus Security" claimed responsibility for the supposed data breach in a social media post that has since been deleted. The cause of the attack appears to be compromised email credentials that were used to attempt unauthorized access to military systems.
Both military branches have denied claims that over 300 gigabytes of military data were compromised in the incident.
An Army spokesperson confirmed that the Philippine Army detected an "illegal access attempt" on their network but emphasized that no data was compromised during the incident. The spokesperson went to great lengths to distinguish unauthorized access and hacking, and has denied hacking. Which means that there was an actual breach with stolen credentials.
A Navy spokesperson stated that the Navy has initiated a detailed investigation regarding the data breach claims and "has taken necessary measures to ensure the integrity of our systems."
The number of potentially affected individuals and any financial impact from the incident remain unknown.
