In September, Top Health Doctors, a group of GP and skin cancer clinics in Brisbane, faced an email compromise incident affecting one of their mailboxes, potentially impacting around 5,500 people.

This incident came to light recently when Services Australia commenced a data matching exercise to ascertain if patients' Medicare numbers or Centrelink Reference Numbers were accessed.

The compromised data includes

  • card numbers,
  • expiry dates,
  • names on Medicare or Centrelink concession cards,
  • dates of birth,
  • residential addresses.

Services Australia is comparing the data from Top Health Doctors with their records to identify affected customers and implement security measures.  Services Australia has a specialized team ready to apply precautionary measures to records as needed.

Top Health Doctors West End confirmed the incident, stating it was limited to an administrative email account at their West End clinic. They have informed all patients at this clinic as a precaution and notified relevant authorities, including Services Australia.
