Trio-Tech International, a California-based semiconductor testing firm, reports a ransomware attack to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on March 20, 2026. The incident targeted its subsidiary in Singapore and was first detected on March 11, 2026. The management initially deemed the event non-material but later they reclassified it as a material cybersecurity event on March 18 after discovering that stolen data had been leaked online.

The Gunra ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack on its dark web leak site. Attackers stole files and then deployed file-encrypting ransomware within the subsidiary's network, causing disruption to local systems. The Gunra group published samples of the stolen data to verify their claims.

The compromised data includes:

  • Encrypted network files
  • Internal business documents
  • Subsidiary-specific operational records
  • Unauthorized disclosure of certain company data

The number of affected individuals is not disclosed. Trio-Tech activated its response protocols and took its network offline to stop the attack from spreading. The company notified law enforcement authorities in Singapore and hired third-party cybersecurity professionals to lead the forensic investigation. Management is currently working with its cyber insurance provider to manage remediation and potential claims.

The subsidiary has begun the process of notifying affected parties as required by Singaporean law.
