The Trump 2024 presidential campaign has confirmed a security breach, alleging that foreign actors linked to Iran, are responsible.
The breach involved the unauthorized access and leaking of internal campaign communications, including a dossier on Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance. These documents were sent to Politico via an AOL email account by an individual identifying themselves as "Robert."
Although the campaign has not provided specific evidence directly linking Iran to the breach, they referenced a recent report from Microsoft. This report indicated that Iranian government-associated hackers attempted to infiltrate the account of a "high-ranking official" in a U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024. The campaign's statement hinted at Iran's involvement, noting that the timing of the hacking attempt coincided with Trump's selection of a vice presidential nominee.
No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack.
The campaign warned that any media outlet publishing these leaked documents would be aiding America's adversaries. The Iranian government has not yet commented on these allegations.
