Hackers have breached the mobile application of Turkey's national electronic toll collection system, HGS (Fast Pass System), operated by the Post and Telegraph Organization (PTT).
The attack specifically targeted users of the iOS version of the application. The breach manifested through a series of unauthorized notifications sent to users. Initially, hackers sent messages containing profane content, followed by two subsequent notifications demanding a ransom of $25,000 in Bitcoin. The threat actors warned they would release user data if the ransom wasn't paid. The attack utilized unauthorized access to the app's messaging service, with the intrusion reportedly originating from foreign IP addresses.
PTT General Directorate issued a statement confirming the hack but claiming that no data loss or unauthorized access to user information had occurred.
No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack.
