A data leak has exposed sensitive personal information of thousands of Israeli gun owners online. The leak contains over 10,000 records of Israeli settlers who legally own firearms. According to reports from Haaretz, over 100,000 files were stolen from various sources. The exposed data includes:
- Home addresses and identities of gun owners
- Military and medical background information
- Photographs
- Types and details of weapons owned
- Information about weapon storage in public institutions
- Data on armed security personnel, including evaluations and recommendation letters
- Police identification documents
The Iranian-affiliated hacking group Handala has claimed responsibility for the attack. This group has a history of operations designed to embarrass Israel and disrupt its systems, primarily focusing on psychological warfare and influence campaigns.
The compromised information appears to originate from multiple sources, including:
- Police Security and Licensing Division
- National Security Ministry's Firearm Licensing Department
- Private security firms working with the Israeli government
Israeli police have denied that their systems were breached. The documents were leaked in early March 2025, but the breach reportedly began in December 2024.
