The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is reporting an incident that compromised the personal information of 75,357 faculty, staff, and students. 

UMass Dartmouth is a public research university located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. They discovered the incident in January 2025. The institution did not report the breach to the authorities until June 16, 2025. This delay has become a central point of contention in subsequent legal proceedings, with plaintiffs alleging the university failed to promptly inform affected individuals about the compromise of their sensitive personal information.

The compromised data includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information (credit/debit card numbers)
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Passport identification information

The nature of the attack is not disclosed. 

UMass Dartmouth is offering affected individuals complimentary one-year memberships a credit monitoring and identity protection service. The university has also stated that it is implementing additional safeguards and technical security measures to further protect and monitor its systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
