V12 Software reports data breach, exposing over 200k people

V12 Software, Inc., a San Jose based provider software solutions and marketing services for the auto dealership industry, is reporting a data breach.
It is unclear whether the breach was a direct attack on V12 Software’s IT network or if the data was obtained through an attack on one of its vendors.
The breach allowed an unauthorized party to access sensitive consumer information, including:
- names,
- Social Security numbers,
- driver's license numbers.
The breach has affected a reported 286,396 individuals in Texas alone, with possibly more in other states. The exposed data can lead to identity theft or the sale of personal information to criminal entities.
After concluding its investigation into the breach, V12 Software began issuing notification letters to all individuals whose data was compromised.
