Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU) reported a data breach after discovering unauthorized access to an employee's email accounts. It was later determined that some of the emails and attachments in these accounts contained confidential information belonging to certain customers.
The account contained confidential consumer information, including
- full names,
- financial account details,
- Social Security numbers.
VCCU initiated an investigation and subsequently sent data breach notification letters to all 81,900 affected individuals.
The breach occurred between October 20 and December 15, 2022, and VCCU completed the review of compromised files on June 7, 2023, providing victims with information on the specific data exposed.
