Classic Residence Management Limited Partnership, operating as Vi Living ("Vi") reported a data breach in which an unauthorized party successfully infiltrated Vi's computer system.
On March 13, 2023, Vi became aware of the unauthorized access by an external party into the company's corporate office network and data server. In response, Vi disconnected the affected systems from the network, reported the breach to law enforcement, and engaged an IT forensics firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
The investigation by Vi confirmed the unauthorized access by the external party to specific files on the company's network containing confidential consumer information. Following this revelation, Vi Living undertook a review of the compromised files to determine the extent of the information that was exposed and identify the affected consumers. This assessment was concluded on July 25, 2023 and confirmed that over 61,000 individuals are affected. The compromised information varied based on the individual, but it potentially included names and Social Security numbers.
On September 29, 2023, Vi Living initiated the distribution of data breach letters to individuals affected by the recent data security incident. These letters were intended to provide the victims with a comprehensive list of the compromised information pertaining to them.
