Radford City Public Schools in Virginia is reporting a cybersecurity incident that disrupted parts of the district's computer network, affecting internal systems.
Superintendent Adam Joyce sent an update to families of students via email, stating "As soon as we became aware of the situation, we immediately activated our security protocols, enlisted the support of top cybersecurity experts, and began working closely with state and federal law enforcement to investigate the source and scope of the issue."
No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack, any exposed data or number of affected individuals. Radford City Schools had 3,333 students in the 2024-25 school year.
The superintendent said all safety-related systems, such as security cameras, doors and phone lines, remain fully operational. "We are grateful that this occurred during summer break when schools are closed and summer school classroom learning is not impacted. This timing gives us space to focus fully on our response and ensure our systems are safe and secure well before the bulk of our students and staff return."
