The Washington state court system has been offline since Sunday, 3rd of November 2024 due to a cyberattack that triggered unauthorized access to its networks.
This incident affects multiple judicial information systems, websites, and services across the state. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) responded by shutting down affected systems to protect data integrity and is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to restore functionality.
All Washington state court judicial information systems are affected, including court websites and related online services.
Some municipal and district courts, such as those in Bainbridge Island, Monroe, Puyallup, Milton, and Thurston County, are providing limited services. The Pierce County Superior Court Clerk’s Office has maintained partial online access, though some services like judgment balance inquiries and certain record searches are temporarily inaccessible.
Most court proceedings are continuing with minimal interruptions, and customer service counters are open. Visitors are advised to call ahead to confirm specific service availability.
The AOC has yet to disclose whether the attack involved data theft or if it resembles previous ransomware incidents, such as the Kansas Courts Authority breach in 2023, which led to sensitive data exposure and significant system outages.
