Wayne County, Michigan, the state's largest county with a population of over 1.75 million, has been hit by a cyberattack that disrupted numerous governmental services, including financial transactions, estate sales, and case management.

All county websites were taken offline, making online services like property tax payments and property records inaccessible. The attack, first reported on Wednesday, 2nd of October 2024, also affected the judicial system, including jail bond payments and client visits for defense attorneys.

A spokesperson for Wayne County indicated that services had been transitioned to backup systems to maintain functionality. The county expect their website to be fully restored by Friday, pending no further issues.

No other details about the attack or any impacted individuals is disclosed.

Although the spokesperson did not confirm if the attack involved ransomware, the county's IT team is working with the FBI and Michigan State Police to investigate.
