Learn More
The Akira ransomware group claims to have breached Apache OpenOffice, part of the Apache Software Foundation, and allegedly stolen 23GB of corporate data.
The claim was posted on the group's dark web leak site on October 30, 2025. The group stated they would upload 23GB of corporate documents and described the contents as employee information, financial records, internal confidential files, and reports about issues with the application.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
As of the time of reporting, the Apache Software Foundation has not confirmed any breach of Apache OpenOffice systems or data. The listing is not verified. Media outlets have reached out to the Apache Software Foundation for comment, but no official statement has been released.
Update - as of 4th of November 2025, Apache Software Foundation disputes the claim of Akira, stating they don't possess such data since OpenOffice contributors are unpaid volunteers and all development occurs openly on public mailing lists. Apache is investigating the claim but has received no ransom demand and does not believe their infrastructure was actually compromised.
