AkzoNobel U.S. Facility Targeted in Anubis Ransomware Attack

AkzoNobel, a Dutch multinational paints and coatings manufacturer, reports a cybersecurity incident at one of its U.S. facilities after claims by the Anubis ransomware group.
The breach was identified after the threat actors began leaking stolen data on their extortion portal. The company claims the impact was limited to a single site and has been contained.
The Anubis group claims to have stolen 170GB of data, totaling approximately 170,000 files. The compromised data allegedly includes:
- Passport scans and personal identification documents
- Private email correspondence and internal communications
- Confidential agreements with high-profile clients
- Internal technical specification sheets
- Material testing documents and proprietary research
- Employee and partner email addresses and phone numbers
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
The organization is currently working with external security experts and law enforcement to investigate the full scope of the breach. AkzoNobel is in the process of notifying and supporting parties whose data was exposed in the leak.
