Ally Bank reports a data breach following the discovery that portions of its computer system had been accessed by an unauthorized party. Ally Bank, a subsidiary of Ally Financial, is a financial institution headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.
The breach occurred on April 23, 2024 and appears to have originated from a security incident at one of Ally Bank's third-party vendors. After becoming aware of the incident, Ally Bank coordinated with the vendor to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Following this, the bank reviewed the compromised files to identify the affected customers and determine what specific information had been exposed.
The incident exposed sensitive customer data, including:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Auto account numbers
The third party is not named, and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed. Ally Bank informs that they have sent out notification letters to all impacted individuals on May 23, 2024.
