The Leicester City Council in the UK is hit by a significant cybersecurity incident that began in early March. The attack has impacted various essential services including schooling, social housing, Wi-Fi connectivity, waste and recycling management, and birth registration processes.

INC Ransom extortion group took responsibility for the attack and announced the theft of 3 TB of data from the councilm, but later removed the post.

The council, claiming to adhere to protocols for ongoing criminal investigations, has not publicly confirmed the specifics of the data potentially compromised during the attack.

Update - The UK local authority said on April 3rd that around 25 documents have been leaked, including rent statements, applications to purchase council housing and personal identification documents such as passport information.

On 9th of April there was a second leak of 1.3 terabytes of data. The Council is in the process of reviewing the data to see exactly what it consists of, and have notified the authorities of the new development.
