Anne Arundel County in Maryland is reporting a cyberattack affecting multiple county systems. The incident was initially reported when the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems went down, though emergency services including 911 systems remained operational. 

While the CAD outage did not affect dispatching capabilities, it impacted management and documentation functions such as arrival times and scene status tracking. The attack has been attributed to the INC ransomware group,

According to reports, messages indicated that "many terabytes" of data have been released on a dark web blog of the gang. The specific types of compromised data and the exact number of affected individuals have not been disclosed.

Update - as of 15th of May 2025, Anne Arundel County government in Maryland has officially confirmed that the cyber incident was a ransomware attack that potentially compromised sensitive health information of individuals who received treatment and related services at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.

The investigation remains ongoing, but the following types of information may have been compromised:

  • Full names
  • Addresses
  • Medical diagnoses or conditions

The number of affected individuals has not been disclosed. The county is notifying potentially affected individuals through a media release and website posting, with plans to directly contact those identified as potentially impacted through the review process in the coming months. 

The county's Office of Information Technology, public safety officials, and cybersecurity experts are actively working to assess the situation, restore affected systems and maintain essential services

While no specific timeline for system restoration has been provided, the county has committed to providing updates through official government channels.
