Baker University data breach exposes data of over 53,000 individuals

Baker University based in Baldwin City, Kansas, reports a data breach that compromised the personal, health, and financial information of 53,624 individuals.
The university detected suspicious network activity in December 2024 after a system outage. An investigation confirmed that attackers maintained access to the university's systems between December 2 and December 19, 2024, and accessed and stole sensitive documents from certain files and folders within the network.
The compromised information includes:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Driver's license numbers
- Financial account information
- Health insurance information
- Medical information
- Passport information
- Social Security numbers
- Student identification numbers
- Tax identification numbers
The nature of the attack is not disclosed. The university sent breach notification letters to affected individuals and is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services for up to 24 months to all affected individuals. It's not clear why the notifications were delayed for a full year.
