On September 23, 2024, Brown Integrated Logistics, Inc. (BIL), a freight and logistics company based in Lithonia, Georgia, USA, reported a data breach after a discovery that an unauthorized actor had accessed the company’s computer network, compromising sensitive information belonging to certain individuals.
BIL provides trucking, logistics, warehousing, and brokerage services.
BIL’s network was first accessed by an unauthorized party on November 13, 2023. On november 15, 2023 BIL became aware of suspicious activity within its computer systems and secured its network. The company engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and determine the scope of the compromised data.
The review of the compromised files to identify the impacted individuals was completed on August 27, 2024. It's not clear why the process took so long.
BIL has not publicly disclosed the nature of the attack, the exact types of compromised data and the number of affected individuals.
On September 23, 2024, BIL began sending out personalized data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected.
