Caribbean based Venture Credit Union Society hit by ransomware attack

Venture Credit Union Society Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago's financial cooperative, is reporting a ransomware attack that compromised customer data and disrupted operations for several days.
The attack occurred on July 18, 2025, and was claimed by the Qilin ransomware group. The credit union claims that that core banking information are secure but some personal identifiable information was compromised and leaked to the dark web.
The attack caused the Visa Debit Card Services to be unavailable for several days.
The compromised data includes:
- Personal identifiable information of credit union members
- Customer documentation and records
- Administrative and operational data
The number of affected individuals has not been disclosed. The organization has stated that they are not planning to pay any ransom demands and will instead rely on professional security protocols and data restoration from backup systems.
The institution claims a full recovery of all platforms by July 21, 2025, just three days after the initial attack.
The organization has committed to maintaining transparency with its membership throughout the ongoing investigation and will communicate directly with any members whose personal information may have been compromised.
