Carter Federal Credit Union, a Louisiana-based financial institution is reporting a data breach that compromised sensitive personal and financial information belonging to 68,934 individuals.
The incident occurred between June 25 and July 2, 2025, when attackers gained access to the credit union's computer network.
The breach was discovered on July 2, 2025. The investigation confirmed compromise of personal and financial information. Exposed data includes:
- Names and Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Driver's license and state identification numbers
- Credit and debit card numbers
- Financial account numbers and account history
- Passport numbers
- Retirement and 401(k) benefits information
- Health insurance information
- Limited medical treatment and diagnosis details
The nature of the attack is not disclosed.
Carter Federal Credit Union began notifying affected members in writing on August 29, 2025. The credit union is providing all affected members with complimentary one-year credit monitoring across all three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion), identity restoration support, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage.
