Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, which operates in Harrisburg and Williamsport, provides aid to more than 250,000 individuals monthly across 27 counties, working in tandem with over 1,130 agencies including food pantries and soup kitchens.
On Tuesday 15th of October 2024, the group claimed responsibility for the attack, posting the food bank's information on their dark web leak site and alleging they had stolen over 20 GB of sensitive data from the organization.
The Fog group has claimed to have exfiltrated a variety of files, including those containing:
- Client agreements,
- Accounting records,
- Human resources documents,
- Social Security numbers,
- Passport details,
- Driver’s license numbers.
The group has not yet posted samples of the stolen data on their blog.
No details are disclosed about the number of affected individuals but the food bank’s volunteer system, involving nearly 8,000 volunteers, may have provided a rich source of personal data for the attackers..
As of now, the food bank’s website remains functional, and there has been no confirmation from the organization about the incident.
