Dole, a multinational food processing company, has disclosed details about a ransomware attack that impacted the company. During the incident employee data was accessed and the data of approximately 3,885 people was exposed.

Dole stated that it currently has no reason to believe that employee data will be subject to fraudulent misuse. However, as a precautionary measure, the company is notifying all U.S. Fresh Fruit employees of the incident and offering complimentary one-year credit monitoring services.

The specific information compromised varies for each individual but may include data collected during their employment, such as

  • names,
  • addresses,
  • telephone numbers,
  • driver's license numbers,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • passport numbers,
  • dates of birth,
  • other employment-related details

The company is actively investigating the incident in collaboration with a cybersecurity firm. Although law enforcement agencies involved have not requested a delay in providing breach notifications, Dole continues to work towards resolving the matter.

Dole was compelled to temporarily shut down several of its production plants in North America. The incident also impacted shipments to grocery stores in New Mexico and Texas. The direct costs associated with the incident amounted to $10.5 million, of which $4.8 million pertained to continuing operations, as reported by the company.

Separate filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that the ransomware attack impacted approximately half of Legacy Dole's servers and one-quarter of its end-user computers.
