Learn More
CentroMed, a healthcare provider based in San Antonio, is reporting a cybersecurity breach where hackers accessed their computer network and acquired patient information.
The breach was publicly acknowledged three days after local news reported that CentroMed patients were encountering difficulties with the provider's computer network, affecting their ability to receive care and schedule appointments.
The unauthorized party infiltrated some of its systems around April 30, 2024, and accessed or obtained files containing data related to both current and former patients.
The compromised data includes:
- Patient names
- Addresses
- Birth dates
- Social Security numbers
- Financial account information
The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed, although the difficulty in use of their systems and the theft of data indicates a ransomware attack. This breach follows a similar incident that occurred in June 2023.
Update - as of 23rd of May 2024, CentroMed is informing 400,000 patients that their data was compromised in the cyberattack.
As of Friday 17th of May, CentroMed began notifying affected patients and has provided information about the incident on its website.
