The government of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) website experienced a weekend outage on its website, which has now been resolved.
Per the information provided by P.E.I. government power surges affected their infrastructure and caused the outage.
The website, containing important data such as hospital wait times and library services, was temporarily unavailable, redirecting users to the government's social media pages.
Per the available information, the outage was not related to a ransomware attack and the P.E.I. government states that no information was compromised. However, the incident came after the Nova Scotia government announced a breach of personal information due to a global security issue with a file transfer service called MOVEit.
There is still some doubt as to the real reason of the outage, since in April 2018, the P.E.I. government website was taken down in a ransomware attack, with the province initially explaining it as a "a service interruption."
