Crown Mortgage Company, an Illinois-based mortgage lender established in 1977, is reporting a data security incident. The company specializes in providing various mortgage solutions including conventional loans, FHA loans, VA loans, and refinancing options to help individuals and families achieve homeownership.
According to the report, unauthorized actors gained access to sensitive customer information in Crown Mortgage's systems. Crown Mortgage conducted an internal investigation to determine the extent of unauthorized access and identify affected individuals. The compromised data includes highly sensitive personal information including

- Social Security numbers,
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed. The complete scope and cause of the breach are still under investigation. A ransomware group has apparently claimed responsibility for the attack byt Crown Mortgage has not officially confirmed .
The company began sending notification letters to all affected individuals on December 20, 2024.
