Belgian healthcare retailer reports cyberattack and data breach

Goed, a Belgian healthcare retailer and a component of the CM health insurance provider is reporting a cyber attack that compromised its systems and caused a data breach. Goed operates both pharmacies and home care stores across Flanders and Brussels—approximately 90 pharmacies and 35 home care stores which offer sales and rentals of health aids for patients staying at home.
The attack, occurred overnight from Monday to Tuesday (18th to 19th of March), led to the theft and encryption of data. Goed has disconnected all its systems in an attempt to contain the breach and prevent further unauthorized access.
The stores are facing payment processing issues. Some are unable to accept Bancontact payments, Belgium's most widely used electronic payment system, forcing them to revert to cash transactions only. Additionally, digital prescription services have been disrupted in certain locations.
The extent of the data breach, including whether patient personal information was compromised has not been disclosed and remains under investigation. It is also unclear if the attackers have made any ransom demands.
