A cyberattack has struck Aigües de Mataró, the municipal water supplier responsible for both drinking water and sewage systems in Mataró, a coastal town in Catalonia, Spain. The company announced on Wednesday 23rd of April 2025 that its corporate computer systems and website were compromised in the attack.
The incident was discovered on Monday 21st of April and has since been reported to both the Catalan police and the autonomous community's cybersecurity agency. The company claims that water supplies themselves and quality control systems were not affected by the breach.
