UK water utility Southern Water reported a cyberattack by the Black Basta ransomware group, resulting in the theft of a limited amount of data including:

Black Basta cllaims it stole 750 GB of data, comprised of personal data and corporate documents. The leaked data potentially compromises both employee and customer information.

The company, which serves 2.5 million customers in Southern England, is investigating the breach with cybersecurity experts and has informed relevant authorities.
Update - Southern Water, serving approximately 4.6 million people in Southern England, has confirmed the attack as of 13th of February 2024. They estimate that 5-10% of its customer base, which translates to between 230,000 and 460,000 individuals, could be affected. Additionally, all current and some former employees will be notified about the potential breach of their personal information.
