Dairy Farmers of America reports ransomware attack exposing data of 4,546 individuals

Dairy Farmers of America, one of the nation's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperatives, is reporting a cyberattack in June 2025 that resulted in the exposure of sensitive personal information belonging to 4,546 employees and cooperative members. 

The attack was claimed by Play ransomware gang. It disrupted multiple manufacturing plants within its network.

The organization discovered the network intrusion two days after attackers initially gained access to company systems. Once inside the network, the cybercriminals stole company data that contained personal information of employees and cooperative members. Exposed data includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license or state-issued ID numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Bank account numbers
  • Medicare or Medicaid numbers

The company sent notification to regulators on Thursday 16th of October. Affected individuals are being offered two years of identity protection services.
