Data breach at Fairmont Federal Credit Union exposes data of 187,038 people

Fairmont Federal Credit Union is reporting an incident that compromised the personal and financial information of 187,038 individuals. The breach was discovered on January 23, 2025, but occurred between September 30, 2023, and October 18, 2023. 

The attack was apparently perpetrated by the now-defunct BlackBasta ransomware group.

The incident exposed sensitive personal and financial information belonging to current and former members of the credit union, including:

  • Names and addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers
  • U.S. Alien registration numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Driver's license or state ID numbers
  • Military ID numbers
  • Tax ID numbers
  • Financial account numbers and routing numbers
  • Credit card numbers
  • Financial institution names
  • Protected health information (PHI)

The credit union has implemented additional security measures and is providing free credit monitoring services to affected individuals whose Social Security numbers may have been compromised. A dedicated toll-free response line has been established at 888-562-7091, available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, to assist affected members with questions and concerns.
