The Dental Group of Amarillo (DGA) is reporting a potential data breach affecting some of their patients. Dental Group of Amarillo (DGA) is a dental practice offering a range of dental and orthodontic services across at least six locations in Amarillo, Texas.
On October 26, 2023, DGA detected that an unauthorized party had accessed their network. The breach ocurred between October 3 and October 19, 2023, during which certain files containing patient were accessed.
DGA initiated an internal investigation and employed a forensic security firm to assist. The investigation concluded with confirmation that the breach involved access to files containing patient information.
Exposed data includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Email addresses
- Health information (provider names, dates of service, X-rays, limited medical history)
- Dental insurance information
- Social Security numbers (limited number of individuals)
- Driver’s license numbers (limited number of individuals)
The number of affected individuals and the nature of the attack is not disclosed.
DGA is actively notifying affected patients about the breach and the steps they can take to protect themselves from potential fraud and identity theft. They are also offering complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to patients whose Social Security or driver’s license numbers were compromised.
