Pepsi Bottling Ventures reports of data breach exposing staff data

Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV), the largest privately-held bottler and distributor of PepsiCo's beverage brands in North America, disclosed potentially resulting in the theft of staff data.
PBV revealed that on January 10th, it became aware of unauthorized activity on certain internal IT systems. It's most unfortunate that the report of a breach happens six months later.
No details are available as to the type of attack or the number of affected individuals.
PBV determined that an unidentified party had gained access to and downloaded data around December 23rd of the previous year. The breach is believed to have involved personal information of both current and former employees, as well as contractors. The compromised data may include
- employees' home addresses,
- bank account details,
- limited number of passwords and PIN codes,
- social security numbers,
- passport information,
- medical details.
The company suspended the affected systems and conducted an investigation to assess the extent and impact of the breach. As of now, PBV has no knowledge of any identity theft or fraud resulting from the exposure of personal information.
In response to the incident, PBV has engaged the services of Kroll, a cyber and financial security service provider, to monitor employees' financial and public identities for a duration of one year at no cost.
PBV has also advised its employees to promptly update any security information previously held by the company.
