The Royal Dutch Society for the Promotion of Pharmacy (KNMP) - an advocacy group for pharmacists in the Netherlands - has revealed a concerning incident involving a data breach.
On June 16, hackers successfully infiltrated the mailing system used by the KNMP to distribute newsletters. As a result, the personal information of the recipients may have been compromised.
The compromised personal information includes
- email addresses,
- names,
- addresses,
- gender
The breach was the result of an intrusion into the mailing system operated by an external party.
The exact extent of the leaked personal information is currently unknown. While the KNMP has approximately 5,000 members who receive the newsletter, individuals beyond the membership base may also be impacted by this incident.
The KNMP promptly responded to the breach by sending out an email notification to alert those affected. The organization assured recipients that the hackers did not manage to gain access to any login credentials, payment details, or sensitive health-related data.
The KNMP reported the data leak to the Data Protection Authority. Additionally, they have made plans to file a police report to ensure appropriate action is taken.
